I've encountered that problem with one of my vms twice in the last ~4 months.
pacman -Suy && reboot — empty files. Don't have that problem with the other
arch installs. The only difference is it's a default install with systemd (the
others run a custom solution). Something is wrong with flushing the fs cache on
shutdown, but I've not tracked the exact problem down.
