Have a look at the optional dependencies for empathy:
$ pacman -Qi empathy
...
Optional Deps  : telepathy-gabble: XMPP/Jabber support [installed]
                 telepathy-idle: IRC support [installed]
                 telepathy-salut: Link-local XMPP support
                 telepathy-rakia: SIP support
                 telepathy-haze: libpurple support
