Provides: cron ... So, cron is a 'generic' name for dcron, fcron, cronie, ... cronie is simply arch's default. Calling pacman -S cron is ambiguous since there are multiple packages in the repo providing 'cron'. Similarly, exim and postfix both provide smtp-server.
