I had similar problem with a Dell Inspiron n5110, Alps touchpad. I bought it last october, and by then this psmouse-alps package didn't exist, so I got vertical scrolling to work using this module instead: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=51343 But now I'm using kernel 3.1.8 and psmouse-alps package, and everything is perfect. I've been holding the linux package from upgrading until kernel 3.3 is on core.
