Do you have alsa-plugins installed? Firefox seems to work fine here on
the page you mention. Mind you that firefox does use an alsa plugin to
output to pulse.

My /etc/asound.conf
pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
    type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
    type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
    type pulse
}
