People have complained about this in the recent past, but these complaints are useless because arch keeps up with upstream, no matter if people like the change or not. These people should have already known that this is part of arch's philosophy. That said, you, or anyone else who wants gnome2 can step up and maintain a custom gnome2 repository for everyone.
