GSoC 2011

Hello all!

I'm William Holbrook, a sophomore at Morehead State University (located in
the eastern part of Kentucky, United States). I'm planning on applying to
GSoC this year, and I think it'd be awesome to see Arch on the list of
mentoring organizations.

I read a few days back on the arch-dev-public mailing list about the
possibility of Arch applying as a mentoring organization. From what I can
gather, Arch hasn't participated in previous GSoC's.

I've looked at some of the project ideas thrown around in arch-dev-public
for this year's GSoC. Package signing appears to be desired by some members
of the community, and it would make things more secure (gotta love trusting
your favorite mirror). It seems to have been worked on quite a bit in this
past month by Denis Falqueto on the pacman-dev mailing list (possibly some
others; difficulties reading plaintext mailing lists). An interesting
project!

I've always thought about what would be a good way to become a part of the
FOSS scene, and I think that GSoC will help me do just that.

I hope to see Arch on the list of organizations when it comes time for
students to begin applying!
