I just did a sort of Monte-Carlo test, by switching mirrors in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and suddenly got a whole load of updates. For reference, the mirror I was using (with no updates) was http://www.mirrorservice.org/ and the one I switched to (with the updates) was http://ftp5.gwdg.de HTH! Pete.
