Do you know where these rules are > stored? > The aliases are generated from device and id lists in the relevant source file during the kernel build process. in your case that would be: {USB_DEVICE(0x0ac8, 0x305b), DVNM("Z-star Vimicro zc0305b")}, in drivers/media/video/gspca/zc3xx.c That id is in that file since it's creation somewhere between 2.6.26 and 2.6.27_r1. Are you sure, you have a recent udev and it's properly configured? --
