I can see the logic behind the decision, if lightning (as shipped with TB3) is suggested to be turned off by upstream, then it's prudent to turn it off in the distro's default build too. I put up a binary package based on a modified PKGBUILD (actually, the file that needs modifying is mozconfig) at http://therning.org/magnus_arch/thunderbird-3.0-3.1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz It's what I use and it works for me.
