I've got a Dell Latitude D630 from work which I've got Arch on and everything on that works like a peach. Personally I don't think you can go wrong with Dell kit, my wife uses my old Inspiron and the only thing on that that I had minor dramas with was the wireless, that was expected though (Broadcom wireless card).
