This was the same reason that prevented me from switching windows 98 with XP, some years later, and made me jump the barricade. Surely I never had an up-to-date machine, nor I have now, still KDE runs fine even if not excellent. But I get a good feel of speed with kde apps and fluxbox. ciao!
