Hi,

I just tried to install the mailman package but I'm wondering if there
is a good reason why this package installs all its content into /home/ ?

Wouldn't /opt/ be a better place for a program like mailman?

According to [1] the /home/ directory is off limits for packages.

See http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/11481. Maybe this will get handled when the maintainer updates it to the latest version. Of course, a working and fixed PKGBUILD always helps speed things along.
