I have used xfce in the past and currently use LXDE when I don't feel
like dealing with a tiling window manager. When compared to gnome or
KDE, both are lightweight, but xfce does a little more "out of the
box". With LXDE, i had to perform more configuration to get it
running as smoothly as xfce. However, i would recommend giving them
both a try and keep the one you like best.
