I think that x86_64 is the way to go.  We need to start making the
transition sooner rather than later.  I don't see what could be a
reasonable reason for staying with i686 for much longer.

We have x86_64 support in Java and Flash.  For the applications that
cannot make the transition as quickly, we have a transparent
translation 32bit -> 64bit layer.

In summary, let's move on up (to x86_64).
