I suspect you are seeing the effects of DirectoryIndex and have the file
specified [in DirectoryIndex] in that directory.

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/mod_dir.html#directoryindex

If you wish to simply see a listing of all files, ensure mod_autoindex
is loaded and that you also specify "Options FollowSymLinks Indexes".
You would also need to ensure that you either do not have the file
specified by DirectoryIndex (It defaults to index.html) or you set
DirectoryIndex to something you don't expect to see in that directory.
