php occasionally displayed instead of execution

I have a RHEL5 server with the included versions of httpd (2.2.3) and php
(5.1.6). Occasionally the php code is not executed but displayed in the
browser. When the page is reloaded it is again executed normally.
Google finds several references to this problem, but I have found
no solution.

No, it is not about having not defined a handler to php. The pages are
executed normally most of the time.
No, it is not about some strange bug in the php script, the problem occurs
with every script we have.

It must be something with Apache and php5-module.

Can anyone help me?
