Other than configuration files, The Apache HTTP Server offers
also quite extensive documentation:

This might be interesting for you:

To look for the fancy proxy stuff.

Another word on the config files: It's a serving suggestion,
(I hope that's well enough translated from German)
in some cases, in many other cases it's nothing at all.

The default config files cannot replace the documentation,
they do not attempt to do so, and they explicitly state that.
