Hi guys,

I am sorry if this is such a newbie question!

I was diagnosing an un-related issue on my web-server and had to list processes to see which PID needed to be killed.  I noticed that there were several entries for the “http2-prefork” process …

[start]

wwwrun    8786  0.0  0.5  88452  6052 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8787  0.0  0.5  88452  6052 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8788  0.0  0.5  88452  6052 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8790  0.0  0.5  88452  6040 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8791  0.0  0.5  88452  6040 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8793  0.0  0.5  88452  6040 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8813  0.0  0.5  88452  6036 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8814  0.0  0.5  88452  6036 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

wwwrun    8815  0.0  0.5  88452  6040 ?        S    10:54   0:00 /usr/sbin/httpd2-prefork -f /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

[end]

I mean, it’s not a huge problem or anything the webserver seems to be running OK - but is it right there should be multiple processes running like this?  I am sorry but I do not know if you need to view any configs or if there is a setting somewhere that controls the number of processes, I installed it through Yast and left it as default (as I am a newbie and this is for a home website!).

I really would appreciate any replies that will help me to understand better.

Thank you

Richard
