Just for the records. This is doing the trick:

|     ServerName nonexistent
|
|     RewriteEngine On
|     RewriteCond %{IS_SUBREQ} false
|     RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !/error/HTTP_BAD_REQUEST.html.var
|     RewriteRule ^.*$ - [R=400]
| </VirtualHost>
