I think, this is for the "V" in "DAV" (Versioning), right?

How can I make use of this DBM database file and or "control" them?

I think the .DAV/ subdirectory is used by apache for all sorts of DAV-related things, e.g., PROPPATCHed properties may turn up there. But I can't help you with your specific question, sorry.
