You could add this redirect above your proxypass lines in a location block to influence handling precedence: <Location /> RedirectMatch ^/portal/site/mediakit$ /portal/site/mediakit/ </location> I believe ProxyPassReverse now plays nice with mod_proxy_balancer. If so you might leverage it to add the slash back.
