I've setup httpd (2.2.3) behind an ssl offloading appliance and virtualized port and scheme for the affected server (or vhost). ServerName https://somehost.example.org:443 UseCanonicalName On However, requests passed on to Apache Tomcat6 via mod_proxy_ajp don't seem to be virtualized properly so Tomcat sees the request coming in via http on port 80 (which is the physical scheme and port from httpd, so Tomcat is not to blame here).
