mod_filter and error responses

I have set up mod_transform as a filter in front of my proxied Plone site
with the following config:

		FilterDeclare THEME
		FilterProvider THEME XSLT resp=Content-Type $text/html
		FilterChain THEME
		TransformSet /theme/compiledtheme.xsl
		TransformOptions +ApacheFS +HTML
        	RewriteEngine On
		RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/(theme|xdv|images|css|js|Scripts).*
		RewriteRule ^/(.*) \

http://localhost:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/%{SERVER_NAME}:80/Plone/VirtualHostRoot/$1
[L,P,NS]

This works great for normal pages, but proxied 404 responses are not
transformed. How do I instruct pass error responses through my filter chain?
