I haven't checked the code, but I'm pretty sure you'll run into limits
in browsers or in the DNS system before you hit an apache limit. How
long are you talking about?

If i mention any name above 31 characters, it is getting truncated. Only the first 31 characters are being taken.

I verified this specifically using http://<servername>/server-status?notable link where we get the Server details. There it shows the truncated name ( bottom part of page).
