Actually I have another running box that has exactly what you want to do - httpd-2.2.6 with included apr(-utils). Here it is:

[root@stp-fe11 bin]# ldd httpd
       libssl.so.4 => /lib/libssl.so.4 (0x005b1000)
       libcrypto.so.4 => /lib/libcrypto.so.4 (0x00437000)

       libcom_err.so.2 => /lib/libcom_err.so.2 (0x0040f000)
       libk5crypto.so.3 => /usr/lib/libk5crypto.so.3 (0x00414000)
       libresolv.so.2 => /lib/libresolv.so.2 (0x001bf000)
libaprutil-1.so.0 => /usr/local/etc/httpd/lib/libaprutil-1.so.0 (0x006ae000)
       libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x003e3000)
       libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x00367000)
       libexpat.so.0 => /usr/lib/libexpat.so.0 (0x00111000)
       libapr-1.so.0 => /usr/local/etc/httpd/lib/libapr-1.so.0 (0x00cee000)
       libuuid.so.1 => /lib/libuuid.so.1 (0x00130000)
       librt.so.1 => /lib/tls/librt.so.1 (0x0039e000)
       libcrypt.so.1 => /lib/libcrypt.so.1 (0x00133000)
       libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0x003fb000)
       libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x00361000)
       libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x00233000)
       libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1 (0x0038c000)
       /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00219000)

[root@stp-fe11 lib]# ldd libaprutil-1.so.0.2.11
       libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 (0x003f7000)
       libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0x00111000)

       libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x006dc000)
       /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00219000)

strangely `ldd libaprutil` doesnt show libmysql-client which I dont understand. but the whole setup is working for me.
