That does sound a lot like the problem I'm experiencing, except I don't get any "ldap_simple_bind_s() failed" messages in the log. That may be because my LogLevel is set to error; one would expect that anything that causes a 500 would be considered an error though :). Thanks for the pointer; I've recompiled mod_ldap with the patch attached to that bug... we'll see how it goes!
OK, I've been running mod_ldap with this patch: http://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=21124 for about two days, and haven't gotten any error 500s. I used to get the error 3 or 4 times a day, so things definitely look good. Thanks again :)
