Not a chance. Basic auth is a very simple feature and it will certainly
work if you get the config right.

I don't want to turn this thread into a tutorial so can you specify what
you mean by; "I've tried all of the tips.." - exactly what did you try
(post snippets), what happened (post browser and error log messages)

Did you get the point about AuthUserFile being either absolute or
relative to the server root?

Did you get the point that if you want to use .htaccess files, you need
"AllowOverride AuthConfig" in the main config?

Do you know that if you have access to the main config, you don't really
need .htaccess and can just put the Auth directives in an appropriate
Directory container (see
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/howto/htaccess.html#when)
