Client denied by server config

Alright, so I'm loving the challenge here, but loathing the fact that I can't seem to make any progress... Trying to password protect different regions of my site, and I haven't seen any change at all, nor has anyone mentioned any username/password requests.... However, browsing through my errorlog, I found numerous entries like the following:

[Fri Jul 13 20:56:32 2007] [error] [client 192.168.2.10] client denied by server configuration: C:/Program Files (x86)/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/files/.htaccess

and a similar log referencing the .htpasswd file. Now, I'm no expert, but I'm 100% positive that I have not been denied access... What am I doing wrong here? If anyone can clear this up for me, they might possibly earn god status in my eyes.... or maybe even admin status :P
