Unfortunately, for a long time mod_perl was not recommended to be used on Apache 2. Eventually I suppose that changed, but in the meantime our Mason install got way behind the curve. I never had the time to invest in upgrading all three bits of technology. That being the case, it's not likely to change anytime soon. I still don't have the time.
