http start up issue

Dear All
i have a redhad linux server 9 running apache httpd-2.0.40-8 and has been
workin fine for long time. recently i found that after a restart httpd was
not running

and when i try to restart it

it said
Starting httpd: httpd: bad group name apache.
but in my /etc/passwd there is user apache
and also there is a group apache

i also deleted the user n group apache and recreated them but same problem

the i used usser nobody and group nobody in httpd.conf file and restated
apache it it worked perfectly OK

but i have some appication that requires http running as user apache...

appreciate your help
