mod_proxy request buffering

Hi all

Could anyone say to what degree mod_proxy buffers a request prior to passing it on? For long running requests (users on slower connections doing uploads) we would prefer the proxy to read the request in its entirety before passing it on to the backend. That way we don't have to commit significant server resources to a slow request.
