This is not really an Apache issue except that Apache has to be made aware of PHP. It needs to know how to handle PHP and it needs to know what file extensions PHP scripts use so it can process them properly.

The specifics on setting this up are available in the install documentation for PHP available at http://www.php.net/

Alternatively, you can use mod_php. Google mod_php to find out how to use it.
