is it possible ? (ssl-tunneling)

Hi,

is it possible to have the connection between the client and the reverse proxy
encrypted with ssl and authorization basic ? smth like ssh-tunneling ?

example :

          client <---- SSL ---- >  Apache  <-------------> origin server
                                 reversed
                                 proxy
