Well... it does, the problem is that the 'ordinary main server' for HTTPS isn't the one for http. What you could do is to add a rewrite rule in the HTTPS vhost so if the requested server ain't the 'correct' one it get redirected to the normal plain http. But this will happen _after_ your client get the warning that the SSL certificate doesn't match the name of the server...
