[users@httpd] Unable to start Apache/2.2.2 - http: bad user name daemon

I am unable to get Apache/2.2.2 to start after recompiling the source for 2.2.2, downloaded from Cygwin.
 
$ /usr/bin/apachectl -k start
httpd: bad user name daemon
 
Operating System:-
Cygwin 1.5.21 on Windows XP SP2
 
1. The default setting does not work.
2. I have tried a valid userID and Group with admin rights, which does not work.

I have read the Apache pages and they suggest that one should not use root user
