[users@httpd] Issue with mod_auth_ldap failure modes (Apache 2.2)

I was very happy to find that setting up LDAP auth with my Active
Directory was pretty straightforward, and works well.

That is, until I tested what happens when incorrect credentials are
provided. At that point, I got a 500 error (with a message in the error
log indicating bad credentials). What I expected was a "401
Authorization Required."

I searched the archives for something on this, but found nothing.
Am I missing something??
