Jan - I've exhausted my limited Apache capabilities.  I'm just not all
that familiar with mod_ssl, but since removing the module from the
load process didn't change anything, maybe that's not the problem.

I think Jerry's right that the power failure appears to have tanked
something - probably in your key generation from the messages you've
included - but I have no idea what that might be or how to go about
fixing it.  The best I can suggest is to Google the phrase "mod_ssl:
Init: Private key not found".  That's what I would have to do and I've
had pretty good results doing so in the past (although with different
phrases, of course).

I don't know if this means the key could not be found, or if it was
found and there was a problem with it.

Have you tried commenting out the LoadModule directive that loads
mod_ssl and restarting?  That will at least tell you whether that is
the module preventing you from starting the service...
