# grep apache /etc/passwd
apache:x:48:48:Apache:/var/www:/sbin/nologin

# grep 48 /etc/group
apache:x:48:

How about a proof of concept -- please post the results of this command:

su - -c "lsof -i tcp | grep apache"

If it is running as apache this command will prove it =)
