Joshua Thanks, this is very useful. I'm not an Apache expert, and I was following instructions written by someone else who, also, clearly does not know how to use setenv & passenv. The /var/apache2/logs/error_log reported: [Wed Jun 07 17:08:22 2006] [error] httpd: could not log pid to file /var/run/apache2/httpd.pid ..and this was because there was no apache2 directory in /var/run. Once created, the httpd server started. Many thanks.
