I have AIX 5.2 , so how do i tell if I have md5 or pgp on my system.

This is explained here: http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi#verify

Basically, you download the file linked to by [PGP] and/or [MD5] next to the distro you just downloaded and then you run one of the commands shown (depending on what you've got installed on your system). Personally, I use the MD5 signature since I have Gnu textutils (see link on the page). To verify, I do:

	$ md5sum httpd-2.2.2.tar.gz

This returns a hex string which is the MD5 checksum of the data in the file. You I then compare this with the data in the [MD5] link and check the strings match. If they do, you can be sure that the file you just downloaded is the same as the one on the apache website and so nobody sneaked anything into the code...
