Well, you can get advice from other users on a mailing list. If you're looking for a legally-binding statement, this might not be the best forum...

Good move. Apart from being a rock-solid product, you can inspect the code yourself and be sure it is secure/high-performing/anything else you are concerned about. Also, if the out-of-the-box version doesn't fit exactly to what you want, you can modify it.

Linux: Absolutely (there are millions of instances of apache running on various linux distros).

VxWorks: Apache is mainly developed on unix and windows. The relevant doc (http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/platform/) doesn't mention Vxworks specifically. You might be able to google for a port since, after all, Apache is just a big C program and Vxworks can run C programs :-)
