Dear members --i'm not sure if this is the right forum for this or not. i'm trying to set up a small program called Data Mine which essentially does a local search on text documents and returns a two page web type output (see here for example http://jonathanscorner.com/etc/datamine/datamine.html) and am having problems with i don't know what.
The program's author suggested i ask a well-crafted question, but since i don't know what the problem is to begin with, this is difficult, however he said that it appeared that my "installation was not configured to run " and that i should ask "how to configure a working cgi-bin directory in /var/www/cgi-bin".
My Apache version looks like 2.0.54 under Linux distro is Mandriva 2006. He told me to include the the conf file below> httpd2.conf ### Main Configuration Section ### You really shouldn't change these settings unless you're a guru ### ServerRoot /etc/httpd/2.0 #ServerName localhost #LockFile /etc/httpd/httpd.lock PidFile /var/run/httpd.pid ErrorLog logs/error_log LogLevel warn DocumentRoot /var/www/html ### Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support ### ### You should always leave those three, as they are needed for ### normal use. ### mod_access (Order, Allow, etc..) ### mod_log_config (Transferlog, etc..) ### mod_mime (AddType, etc...) My knowledge of Linux is about at a 1.0 level (i try to do as much as possible through KDE andMandrake Control Center), and i didn't even know that i would have to install an Apache(server?) to run the program, much less how to install it. i think i got it installed by serendipity. Any help would be appreciated!
