[users@httpd] 2 types of response

Hi all,
I have this situation:
Apache 2.0.54 on FC4.
I install a web application in a box whose 2 NICs, one with public IP and one
with private one. In short, it is an internet gateway box in the office.

We want to apply this scenario:
Users from local network can access the web application right away, while
users accessing from the internet will be faced with apache's .htaccess login
box. We don't want users from the inside to face the .htaccess login box.

Is it possible? or Is there any better approach for it?
Thank you very much,
