Yes, the example in the mod_cache docs is bad.  But if you look at the
docs for the CacheSize directive you will find the details.

I see no evidence of mod_cache acting on the request.  Are you sure it
is properly loaded?  (Remove all the <IfModule> crap, which just hides
useful error messages.)

You might try putting the caching directives inside <Proxy *>.  Sorry,
but I haven't played enough with caching a proxy server to know
exactly how it is done.
