I'm glad it caused you amusement. I was asked to post reasons why I thought that this should be in the main releases, in the hope that the patch would be accepted.Neil A. If Nick hadn't fixed this (under consultancy) we'd have been looking at products other than Apache.ROFL - I always love these posts. Would have been looking at another product with -no- source code, and the next time you were bit, would have been between the rock and the proverbial hard spot :)
This I know. We commissioned Nick to resolve the ProxyPassReverse bug and now he is attempting to get it accepted into the main code. We have also had a Radius Auth module commissioned as mod_auth_rad was not suitable for us. That is open source, too. Which bit of this isn't giving back to the entire community?Apache isn't a product, it is a project, a perpetual work in progress. Thus engineers like Nick or my employeer step in and solve the bugs, and even <gasp> give back the solutions to the entire community :)
At the of the day, we had a problem that needed resolving. If Apache couldn't do it, something else would have, open source or not.
