On the ProxyPassReverse in Location bug - this was a show-stopper, end of story, for us. If Nick hadn't fixed this (under consultancy) we'd have been looking at products other than Apache.

ROFL - I always love these posts. Would have been looking at another
product with -no- source code, and the next time you were bit, would
have been between the rock and the proverbial hard spot :)
I'm glad it caused you amusement. I was asked to post reasons why I thought that this should be in the main releases, in the hope that the patch would be accepted.

Apache isn't a product, it is a project, a perpetual work in progress.
Thus engineers like Nick or my employeer step in and solve the bugs,
and even <gasp> give back the solutions to the entire community :)
This I know. We commissioned Nick to resolve the ProxyPassReverse bug and now he is attempting to get it accepted into the main code. We have also had a Radius Auth module commissioned as mod_auth_rad was not suitable for us. That is open source, too. Which bit of this isn't giving back to the entire community?

At the of the day, we had a problem that needed resolving. If Apache couldn't do it, something else would have, open source or not.
