This is really a name-service issue. Basically, you just need to configure the naming service on each machine on the LAN so that the domain name "intranet" maps to the IP address of the apache server. For example, if the apache machine has IP 192.168.1.1 then you put in /etc/hosts the line:

192.168.1.1		intranet

There's a similar thing for windows (I think the file is called HOSTS).
