RE: [users@httpd] Compression and Security

Does gzip compression and browser decompression support images or is it just html and text?

The mod_deflate documentation doesn’t say anything about images except for instructions on how to get it to not compress them.

Is the name mod_security correct, searching for it in the documentation doesn’t return anything?

Thanks

There are two things I have been trying to find out about apache but I have been unable, I hope you guys can help.

The first thing is compression, on my current IIS server I have a utility that compresses the site and files before it is sent, the users browser then unzips them, is there a similar thing for apache? Is it already installed? If not where would I get it from?

The second thing is security, for IIS there is a security patched called IIS Lockdown, it installs several filters which monitor the URL among other thing, this picks up malformed and other potentially dangerous requests before they reach there server; does apache have a similar thing, does it need something like this?

Thanks for any advice
