Hi,

I'm getting REALLY strange things trying to start apache...

error log:
[Sat Apr 30 13:42:10 2005] [crit] (28)No space left on device: shCreate(809b010, 991, /var/spool/mod_watch/) failed in watchInit() [Sat Apr 30 13:42:18 2005] [error] (28)No space left on device: MutexCreate(/var/spool/mod_watch/SharedHash.lock) failed

Hmmm... <looking very thoughtful and intelligent> looks like the problem is lack of space in the /var file system

BUT
df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/ad0s1a 72G 5.0G 61G 8% /
devfs 1.0K 1.0K 0B 100% /dev

I don't see the /var file system here. (I use FreeBSD with the /var file system showing up separate from '/') I suppose if the /var file system is simply a subdirectory of root (rather than a volume mount point)
then you should have enough space. On the other hand....

Since I don't know what OS you're using I can't go much further. What OS ARE you using?

Obviously, it is *not* out of space....

Fine - just so long as it's not missing altogether. (see above)

permissions are also fine.
ls -l /var/spool/
total 22
drwxrwx--- 3 www www 512 Apr 27 13:45 ifgraph
drwxrwx--- 2 www www 512 Apr 29 23:23 mod_watch

Spool appears to be owned by www - how about /var? (Though I've always gotten permission errors rather than 'out of space' errors when permissions were incorrect. And I
assume Apache is running as user www.

Can anyone perhaps give some light on the subject?

Best of luck,
Gene
