Perhaps there was an existing setup, and it is roundrobin(ing) a
non-production IP. I do not know if you have an internal DNS to the campus
that holds this config. This would likely be why we can't get anything.

Accessing it on the server, or from another machine? It could be either a
search domain on the client, or if you're running fancy MS dns nonsense it
could be its resolver. Legacy WINS stuff requires that facility, and it
can be the issue there.
